Rep Sarah Stevens Cosponsor of H958 Runs for Supreme Court.

This is an email that I, Jane Bilello, wrote to Rep Sarah Stevens, a cosponsor of H958 with Rep Hugh Blackwell. Ms. Stevens attended a Christmas Party in Buncombe County on 12/12 and announced she was running for NC Supreme Court. Since I could not speak to her after her speech, I took the opportunity to appeal to her to accept NCEIT's suggestions and to move the bill out of the Election Law Committee before the primaries. I urge all of you to reach out to her also. 919-715-1883

Dear Representative Stevens,

I attended the Buncombe County Republican Women's Club Christmas Party this past Friday where you spoke. Thank you for stepping up to run for NC Supreme Court.  We certainly need more constitutional judges who follow the law and not create it.  I also wanted to take the opportunity to talk with you regarding H958 Election Law Changes that you and Rep Blackwell sponsored, but could not since you had to leave after you spoke.

First, thank you for developing H958 to improve our election system. However, I urge you to please consider additional significant changes to the H958 PCS and to pass the bill with the NCEIT suggested changes to fix the deficiencies before the 2026 general election (prefer the primary) to restore voter confidence and election integrity giving you a better chance of succeeding.

Our NCEIT team, Jim Womack, Jay Delancy and Joann Empie, have been to Raleigh many times urging the bill sponsors to include our suggestions to H958 and to pass it out of committee and on to the floor for a vote. Our members have written and called. While NCEIT's suggestions were well received, the bill continues to be 'stuck' in your Election Law Committee since September. Why?

  • There should be no opportunity for foreign influence in our elections.

  • The address of overseas voters must be verified through available state databases.

  • Refinement of the voter registration application, registration process, qualifications of voters and use of HAVA documents for address verification improves the quality of the voter registration list.

NCEIT's Suggestions are provided in the next two links. See links here NCEIT's H958 PCS Bill Summary and here NCEIT's Suggestions to Fix the Deficiencies to H958 PCS. Also see these links for data on Questionable Entires on the Voter Registration List, as well as, Duplicate Registrations.

Please help North Carolinians to fix the deficiencies in H958 so we can help you and our other conservative candidates succeed in the upcoming election.

I look forward to hearing from you.  We will help you in any way we can to restore confidence, transparency, and credibility in our elections which is what these suggested changes do.   Please reach out to any one of us.  Thank you for your time and your service.

Sincerely

Jane Bilello
